OUR FAVOURITE PICKS

What type of carpet is best for high-traffic areas like commercial spaces?

For high-traffic areas, consider loop pile or cut-loop pile carpets as they are durable and resistant to crushing. Nylon or polyester fibers are good choices due to their resilience.

What’s the recommended maintenance for commercial carpeting?

Regular vacuuming, periodic deep cleaning, and prompt spot cleaning are essential for maintaining the appearance and longevity of commercial carpets.

  • Place entrance mats at the entrances and high-traffic areas to trap dirt and moisture, preventing them from being tracked onto the carpet.
  • Periodically move heavy furniture to prevent wear patterns from forming. Use furniture glides or pads to reduce friction between furniture legs and the carpet.
  • Regularly inspect the carpet for signs of wear, damage, or areas that require spot cleaning. Catching issues early can prevent them from becoming major problems.
  • Maintain proper indoor air quality by ensuring good ventilation. Proper airflow can help prevent odors and the growth of mold and mildew.
  • Place protective mats or rugs in areas where there is heavy foot traffic or where chairs are frequently moved.

Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for carpet care. Different types of carpeting materials may require specific cleaning methods and products.

Are there carpet options that protect the environment?

Yes! Before exploring ‘green’ carpeting, there is the out-right benefit of all carpets that they are natural insulators, providing us with extra warmth in the colder months and lowering energy usage. There is also a wide range of carpeting available that is made with recycled or sustainable materials such as recycled nylon, recycled polyester, or wool.

  • The use of carpet in a wall-to-wall application actually increases the R-value, or insulation level, of the carpet area, potentially saving homeowners like you utility costs while reducing energy use. The R-value (thermal resistance) measures how much a material resists the movement of heat through a ceiling, wall, or floor in a building. The higher the number, the more effective the insulation.
  • Recently, tests carried out at the Johns Manville Technical Center Thermal Labs, one of the most sophisticated laboratories of its kind in the world, confirm carpet and pad significantly increase R-value compared to other flooring materials. Results varied according to the carpet’s construction, with heavier products generally providing higher R-value. Carpets were tested with and without cushion, and the combination maximized the R-value. Carpet really is warmer.
  • Test results from the different carpet constructions were compared to three hard surface products – ceramic tile, laminate, and engineered hardwood – and the differences were dramatic.

Which carpet materials are most stain-resistant?

Solution-dyed nylon and polyester carpets tend to be more stain-resistant. Wool carpets can also be treated to enhance stain resistance.

Is carpet difficult to care for?

This depends on the type of carpet. Some carpets are designed for luxury and aesthetic, and are not intended to withstand high traffic or rough usage. Other types of carpet are very durable and stain-resistant, ideal for high-traffic areas, families with young children and busy lifestyles. The more ‘luxurious’ carpets will require more maintenance, and the carpets that are designed for durability and resistance will not require as much care.
